HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Families across the Pine Belt visited the Historic Hattiesburg Train Depot Saturday to have lots of fun and learn more about the importance of trains in the Hub City. An annual Train Day was hosted by the Hattiesburg's Metropolitan Planning Organization.
The event featured trackless train rides, exhibits of model trains and lots of other activities for train enthusiasts--- young and old.
"The purpose is to bring attention to the rail and so here in Hattiesburg, we have AMTRAK that comes through twice a day, of course, we have the rail yard which is very key to Hattiesburg," said Calvin Russell, Jr., manager of Hattiesburg's Metropolitan Planning Organization.
This was the third year for Hattiesburg to host a Train Day event.
