HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Golden Eagles have been on a tear as of late, winning 12 of their last 13 games.
Ninth-year coach Scott Berry attributes the Eagles' recent success to pitching and defense. During its 14-game stretch, USM went a school-record eight games without making an error.
"When you have success, I think that is when you start becoming very comfortable or believing in your plan and how we're doing it," Berry said. "Certainly, if the plan doesn't work then people start questioning what we're doing. But we really try to just stay in the moment, one game at a time approach with these guys. Even though we know what's at the end of the year and what we're all trying to get to, we can't get there unless we take it game by game. So far, it seems to have worked pretty good."
Southern Miss (35-12, 19-4 Conference USA) holds a 3 ½ game lead over FAU and Louisiana Tech in the conference standings. USM welcomes the Bulldogs to Pete Taylor Park this weekend.
