HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - William Carey University, fresh off a championship at the Southern State Athletic Conference softball tournament, will welcome three visitors to campus Monday for the opening round of the 2018 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Softball National Championship.
Carey (37-14), which was selected to host the postseason's opening round for the fourth time in five years, was slotted as second seed in the four-team bracket. The 19th-ranked Lady Crusaders topped Mobile University 3-0 last weekend to win the SSAC crown.
Carey will take on third seed and 23rd-ranked Truett McConnell College at 11 a.m. Monday at Joe and Nancy Fail Field.
Truett McConnell (40-15), located in Cleveland, Ga., once played in the SSAC. This season, the Lady Bears (40-15) won both regular-season and tournament titles in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Indiana Wesley won the Crossroads Conference tournament, while Talladega was tournament runner-up in the Association of Independent Institutions' postseason.
Three games are scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the championship game(s) set for Wednesday. The initial game is set for 11 am., with a second game, if necessary, to be played at 1 p.m.
