Southern Miss baseball cracks top 10 after sweep

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The University of Southern Mississippi baseball team cracked the D1Baseball.com top 10 after a weekend sweep of UAB.

Southern Miss jumped from No. 11 to No. 9 in the latest Top 25 rankings released on Monday. The Golden Eagles improved to 35-12 overall and 19-4 in the Conference USA after the sweep, remaining in first place. 

The USA Today Coaches Poll and Baseball America ranked Southern Miss at No. 13.

Junior right-handed pitcher Nick Sandlin earned National Player of the Week from Collegiate Baseball, and junior third baseman Luke Reynolds was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week. 

Sandlin pitched his second-straight complete-game shutout on Friday against UAB, while Reynolds scored in all four games last week, including four home runs in a three-game stretch.
