Carey captures SSAC title; JCJC softball beats Itawamba

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - As the first week of May ends, the postseason is just beginning for many baseball and softball teams around the Pine Belt.

- No. 2 JCJC fell to Meridian twice on Sunday to drop to 37-9 on the season. The Bobcats host Hinds in a best-of-three series on Thursday and Friday in the first round of the MACJC playoffs.

- No. 4 JCJC softball beat Itawamba 6-0 in the MACJC tournament on Sunday, improving to 45-3. The Lady Bobcats play for their third straight state title on Monday when they face Itawamba at 1 p.m.

- PRCC softball's 3-2 loss to East Central ended the Lady Wildcats' season.

- William Carey softball beat Mobile 3-0 on Sunday to capture the 2018 SSAC championship. The Lady Crusaders host the opening round of the NAIA tournament from May 14-16.
