HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Four Pine Belt area baseball teams were in action on Saturday night. It just so happened that all four were playing for a spot in the class 5A South State finals.
Following a dramatic come-from-behind win over South Jones on Friday to force a game three, Hattiesburg jumped all over the Braves from the first pitch on Saturday. The Tigers scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 13-1 over South Jones in five innings.
Hattiesburg advanced to its third straight South State finals and it appeared they would be facing Pearl River Central for the second straight season.
The Blue Devils led West Jones 6-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning after Hayden Dunhurst's three-run homer in the top half of the inning.
Ironically, it was Dunhurst on the mound who gave up a three-run walk-off homer by Kris Riley as the Mustangs beat PRC 7-6 in dramatic fashion.
Hattiesburg and West Jones will meet in the class 5A South State finals beginning on Thursday at Smokie Harrington Park.
