HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Southern Pines Animal Shelter has received a large grant to help them with their mission to find permanent homes for homeless pets.
Saturday afternoon, that organization got a $300,000 Lifesaving Grant from the Petco Foundation.
The funds will be used to help with adoption events, to prepare pets for adoption and to support the shelter's transport program.
"We are so lucky to have national organizations like the Petco Foundation who believe in the work that we're doing locally and who invest in it and who make these things possible," said Ginny Sims, shelter director.
"There are several grants that people can apply for that do rescue work and that kind of stuff for us," said Tina Von Hagel, district leader for Petco. "I know in other locations I've been able to administer similar (grants), just not quite to the dollar amount that we were able to do today."
In the last 20 years, the Petco Foundation has invested more than $200 million to support lifesaving efforts across the country.
