Owner hit by race car at Hattiesburg Speedway, needs surgery

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The owner of the Hattiesburg Speedway, Donald Parker, will undergo surgery after being struck by a race car alongside the racetrack. The accident happened just after 8:00 p.m. on Friday night during 'Race Day'. 

Parker's son, Brandon Parker, announced on Facebook that his father suffered from a broken nose, knee and hand as a result of the incident. He went on to say that after his swelling goes down that his dad will need surgery. 

According to Forrest County Sheriff's Office Investigator John Tryner, one ambulance responded to the scene. Several supporters and patrons took to Facebook to ask for prayers for Parker. 

The Hattiesburg Speedway also shared a post on their Facebook page. 

Hattiesburg Speedway advertised 'Race Day' on their Twitter page Friday stating the event included a kids' challenge. 

No other injuries were reported.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
