Oak Grove guard Hughes signs with JCJC

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Lekera Hughes is taking her game to the next level. The Oak Grove guard signed Thursday to continue her hoops career at Jones County Junior College.

The Lady Bobcats are one of the top junior college programs in the nation. The allure of playing close to home was strong for Hughes.

"Well first it was close to home," Hughes said. "I can go home, get my stuff washed and go eat. Second, coach (Missy) Bilderback, she has a great program. I love the energy and the campus. I know a lot of people there."

Hughes joins a Lady Bobcat signing class that includes the state Gatorade Payer of the Year Destiny Haymer from Holmes County Central and Endia Holliday from South Jones

"I think one good thing about her is she can play the one or the two," Oak Grove coach Mark Swindle said. "Her shooting...she's probably the best shooter I've ever had in 33 years..girls and boys. Just very accurate and just dead on so I think she'll be very flexible and be able to play the one and two for them and be very successful."
