Hattiesburg woman charged in Lamar County shooting

LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg woman accused of shooting another woman in the face and shoulder was arrested Tuesday night in Lamar County.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said 41-year-old Lucy Morales barged into a home on West Seneca Road outside Lumberton around 11 p.m., cutting a man on the hand as he tried to stop her from entering the home.

A woman inside the home tried to escape in a car when Morales fired a shotgun through the windshield, hitting the victim in her face and shoulder with bird shot, according to Rigel. The woman was treated at a local hospital and released. 

Rigel said Morales was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
