HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Police Department is warning the public of a phone scam reported in the area.

HPD spokesman Ryan Moore said a person going by the name "Jim Miller" is calling from a Brandon number, 601-706-7634, and asking for donations for the Hattiesburg Police Department Benevolent Fund. He is asking for donations of $100, $250 and $500, according to Moore.

Moore said the department will not solicit funds this way and to not give the caller any money or personal information.
