HPD warns of donations phone scam

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg Police Department is warning the public of a phone scam reported in the area. 

HPD spokesman Ryan Moore said a person going by the name "Jim Miller" is calling from a Brandon number, 601-706-7634, and asking for donations for the Hattiesburg Police Department Benevolent Fund. He is asking for donations of $100, $250 and $500, according to Moore. 

Moore said the department will not solicit funds this way and to not give the caller any money or personal information.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
