JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi State Fire Marshal's Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in a case of arson in Jasper County.

Sheriff Randy Johnson said flames gutted a single-story brick home on Pine Avenue in Heidelberg early Monday morning. No injuries were reported.

Johnson said the fire was suspicious, because there was no electricity or gas connected to the house when the fire broke out. Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office confirmed Wednesday the fire was intentionally set.

According to Johnson, the home belongs to 49-year-old Walter Plummer, who is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for aggravated domestic assault.

Plummer was sentenced on Feb. 14, 2018 in Jasper County. His tentative release date is set for Feb. 13, 2020.

The Oak Bowery, Paulding and Heidelberg volunteer fire departments worked the fire.
