JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A sewage leak has a Jones County property owner in a dispute with Southern Cross Animal Rescue.

Kevin Lipps said leaking sewage is affecting his property adjacent to SCAR. He admits it may be coming from a nearby house, but he says the leaking line runs under the SCAR property.

SCAR said in a Facebook post it has spent thousands of dollars relocating its septic system.

"The kids used to get off the school bus right here, walk across the pasture. The smell so bad you can't. You couldn't do it. And for health reasons, we just had them to start getting off at the other road over here," said Lipps. "So, you couldn't mow the grass. See how the grass is there? You couldn't mow the grass. It's just something that shouldn't happen here. You shouldn't have sewage running out on top of the ground anywhere."

SCAR said if the state health department determines a need for further improvements at its facility, it will gladly comply.
