HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A knife-wielding robbery suspect got away empty-handed after a convenience store clerk pulled out a knife of his own.

Hattiesburg police are now asking for help identifying the suspect.

HPD spokesman Ryan Moore said the attempted robbery happened at the Dandy Dan’s convenience store on U.S. Highway 49 around 1 a.m. Sunday.

The clerk told police the suspect walked into the store, pulled out a knife and demanded money from the register.  When that didn’t work, the suspect reportedly grabbed the clerk by his jacket and demanded money again.

Moore said that’s when the clerk pulled out his own knife and told the suspect to leave.

The suspect left the scene on foot, and responding officers found a knife in the store’s parking lot.

If you can identify the suspect or have any information that could help detectives, please call the Hattiesburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 601-582-7867.
