LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Bargain hunters looking for a good deal on a used car needed to look no further than the Jones County Sheriff's Department Saturday.

It held a public auction for nearly two dozen seized or forfeited vehicles that were involved in controlled substance cases.

It took place on Park Hill Drive.

The vehicles up for auction included two and foor-door sedans, SUVs and even a big rig truck.

"One of the things we've been very aggressive over the last eleven years is working criminal activity, suppressing crime as much as we can here in Jones County, all while taking the assets that we seize and turning it back into the seizure funds that we use to buy necessary equipment for the Jones County Sheriff's Department," said Alex Hodge, Jones County sheriff.

A total of 21 vehicles were included in the auction.

As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
