MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Marion County Sheriff's Office lost a valued member of its team on Friday. 

The department is mourning the loss of K9 Officer Meko, who served the county since 2010, according to a Marion County Sheriff's Office Facebook post. Meko died after battling complicated health problems. 

Meko began with the county in 2010 as Deputy Matt Brown's partner and finished his watch as Major Zack Guidroz's partner, according to the post.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
