NEW AUGUSTA, MS (WDAM) -

Three years after taking over the Perry Central baseball program, coach Josh Anderson has led the Bulldogs to their first Region 8-2A title in school history.

Perry Central (17-7) is having a record season in New Augusta.

“It’s great, it’s great for the kids,” Anderson said. “They’ve worked real hard, especially the past few years. I got the same group of guys, they started out when I got here. This is my third year so they were a bunch of eight and ninth graders. I got a bunch of juniors and seniors and it’s been a process but this year they’ve really accepted that challenge and they’ve bought in to what we’re trying to do. I really feel like if we play at the level we’ve been playing – good defense, we hit the ball like we’ve been hitting it, throwing strikes. That’s what we’ve been doing all year. I feel like we can play with anybody.”

Perry Central continues its playoff run against Mize (17-10) on Friday at 7 p.m.
