JCJC softball focused on the postseason

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Jones County Junior College softball team wrapped up its regular season at 41-3. The fourth ranked Lady Bobcats are now in postseason mode.

They'll host Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend in a best of three MACJC series

"It's going to be an electric atmosphere," Lady Bobcats coach Chris Robinson said. "It's our white out the bank night. We're going to give out white tee shirts to the first 120 fans that walk in the park. They do a tremendous job down there. Kenneth Long and Christie Meeks do a really good job.

"We're just going to have to pitch and play defense and hopefully we'll come out on top. But I think we've played each other like 16 or 17 times in the last three years so there's not a whole lot of unfamiliarity with each other. I saw him yesterday and I said man I just wish we wouldn't play you guys because we're always playing them."

Sophomore infielder Callie Venable said the focus needed for the postseason was developed at the very start of the season.

"At the very beginning of the season he always puts in our locker a little cut out that says 200 feet," Venable said. "He encourages us to take it 200 feet at a time which is as far as the head lights on a car shine. He teaches us that you can't go any farther than the light that you have."
