Carey to host opening round of NAIA softball championships

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

From William Carey University Sports Information Department

For the second consecutive season and fourth time in the last six years, William Carey University was selected as a host site for the opening round of the sixth annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Softball National Championship.

The honor guarantees the 18th-ranked Lady Crusaders (33-13, 19-9 Southern States Athletic Conference) a spot in the NAIA’s 40-team postseason.

Carey is one of 10 sites nationally that will host a four-team, double-elimination regional from May 14-16. The fields for each will be released at 4 p.m. May 8 on the NAIA Facebook page.

“We are extremely excited to be selected as a host site for this year’s softball tournament’s opening round,” Carey athletic director D.J. Pulley said in release from the school. “We are looking forward to a great week of softball at Joseph and Nancy Fail Field.”

The winner of each regional will move on to form the field for the 38th annual NAIA World Series, set for May 25-31 at Legends Way Ball Fields in Claremont, Fla.
