JCJC guard Kira Bonner signs with Northwestern State

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Jones County Junior College women's basketball program has put together a nice run the last couple years. During this time the Lady Bobcats have posted a 56-6 record and won two Region 23 titles.

The squad's sophomore class has played a huge role in this. The sixth member of the class signed with a division one program Wednesday with guard Kira Bonner signing with Northwestern State.

"It feels good," Bonner said. "The process was very overwhelming and I'm just glad it's over but I made a good decision so I'm happy."

The Quitman native said she got a JCJC vibe during her visit to the campus in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

"It reminded me a lot of Jones," she said. "The playing style, the coaches, the teammates. They were very welcoming. The campus is beautiful and I'm just ready to win."

Bonner put up 10 points per game this past season.

"She's just been an amazing leader first off all," Lady Bobcats head coach Missy Bilderback said. "She's a tough kid. A great defensive player. Big shot maker. Whenever we needed big plays and big things to happen she'd always step up. Probably the most important thing is she's just been consistent. Everyday hard worker. Everyday ready to play. Every ay ready to lead and that's what winners do. She's been a huge part of our success for sure."
