FORT BLISS, TX (WDAM) - Mississippi National Guard soldiers continue training ahead of a summer 2018 deployment to the Middle East.

The 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team has been at Fort Bliss, TX for more than a month for mobilization training, according to a National Guard news release. The Mississippi National Guard announced in March that more than 4,000 soldiers would head to Fort Bliss for three months of training ahead of a nine-month deployment oversees.

Along with members of the Kansas National Guard, soldiers are training in an austere environment while conducting battle and gunnery drills at the crew, platoon and company levels to build cohesion across the brigade, according to the release.

The brigade will be deployed this summer to the Middle East as part of Operation Spartan Shield, which is a combined forces operation to deter and react to possible threats in the region.
