High School baseball playoff scores - April 23

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

It was win or go home Monday night in the Pine Belt. Several high school baseball teams looked to punch their tickets to the second round of the MHSAA playoffs. Here’s a look at some of the scores.

Class 1A

Nanih Waiya (4) Lumberton (1)

*Lumberton’s season comes to an end.

Class 2A

Richton (5) Clarkdale (4) – 9 innings

*Rebels advance to play St. Joseph Classic in the second round.

Mize (6) Bogue Chitto (3)

*Bulldogs advance to face Perry Central in the second round.

Class 4A

Richland (8) Greene County (3)

*Greene County’s season comes to an end.

Class 5A

South Jones (5) Stone (1)

*Braves advance to play Natchez in the second round.

Wayne County (10) Long Beach (6)

*War Eagles advance to face Hattiesburg in the second round.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
