HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - It didn't take long for Nick Sandlin to capture another award following his return to the mound for USM.
The junior was named Conference USA pitcher of the week and a Collegiate Baseball player of the week for the third time this season. Sandlin pitched 12 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in five innings of USM's 8-0 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday.
Junior Adam Jackson is expected to take the mound on Tuesday night when the Golden Eagles host South Alabama at 6 p.m. The Jaguars beat Southern Miss 10-9 in their first meeting on February 20.
"South Alabama a very good club," said USM head coach Scott Berry. "They beat us earlier down there, I think the fourth game of the year. It was a game that we were in the driver's seat but South [Alabama] made a charge there late in the game and was able to take it from us. Certainly, they're a very good club. We're a good club so it ought to be a really good game on Tuesday night and a challenge for us, for sure."
