HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Arc of Southeast Mississippi was this year's focus of the 2018 Comcast Cares Day.
Jason Holifield, organizer Comcast Cares Day at the Arc, says Comcast has been committed to improving the quality of life the local communities where employees and customers live and work.
Comcast likes to come out and do in the community once a year and try to give back," Holifield said. "We got with the arc here. We're washing some vans, we're doing some landscaping, working on the playground in the back, and I believe they cleaned the gym and stuff.
Over 100 people from clubs and organizations in the Pine Belt came out to volunteer.
For kids who've been with the Arc their whole life such as Charlie Green, she says it brings her joy to see all the different faces.
Charlie says the cleanup is personal to her because her close friend passed away, and it makes her happy to see volunteers cleaning out the art studio named after her close friend.
"It means so much to me because this is important," Green said. "My favorite part about this is doing this for the kids at the Art, because this is in my memory of my friend...because I love her so much."
Organizers of today's event say this years they will be engaging their one-millionth volunteer since the event started in 2001. The company also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Soup Kitchen in Laurel.
