HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Jefferson Davis County girls basketball program didn't have to wait long for a player to sign with a college. Senior forward Azaria Magee signed with Copiah-Lincoln Community College Friday, becoming the first player in program history to do so.
"It feels good really because I'm really for it and I want to see how it go," Magee said. "It's going to be okay."
Jaguars coach Marcus Luckett hopes this plants the seed for many more signings. This is the first year for JDC after the Bassfield and Prentiss were consolidated.
"It means a lot to see a kid that fulfills their dreams and it means a lot to the program for other kids to get to see that she's the first girls basketball player to go onto college," Luckett said. "She's got nice size. She's real athletic and she's a work horse. I mean whatever you tell her to do she's going to go in and put in the work so it's no doubt. And I've told her the 18 year old Azaria is not going to have anything on the 20 year old Azaria."
