JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Jasper County Sheriff's Department has made plans for alternate routes along several county roads, due to the closure of several bridges.
On Tuesday, Governor Phil Bryant ordered the Mississippi Department of Transportation to close 83 locally maintained bridges in the state after federal officials said they were unsafe.
Twelve of those bridges are in Jasper County.
"The maps we have have the last address you can get to from one side and the last address from the other," said Randy Johnson, sheriff of Jasper County. "So the deputies have that, so if we get a certain address on a certain county road that's got a bridge out, we can look at our map and we'll know which way we need to approach it from and we've given that also to the ambulance and all the fire departments have it."
A bridge on County Road 12 near Bay Springs was among the first bridges to close in the county.
