HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Improvements continue on Sullivan Kilrain Road, a busy corridor that connects Lamar and Forrest counties. The heavily-traveled road will be closed to traffic Wednesday so crews can put down new asphalt.
Road crews took out a sometimes dangerous curve by the railroad tracks a few weeks ago as part of the improvement project. In the past, there have been several accidents in that curve.
According to Lamar County Road Manager Tommy Jones, the curve was taken out to straighten the road and, hopefully, improve safety for drivers.
"It will be a straight shot. You'll never have that curve again," said Jones in a previous interview with WDAM.
County officials say the total cost of the road project will be around $40,000.
