HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Agencies in Hattiesburg that help citizens with disabilities or special needs gathered at the Sherrill Community Center Wednesday to exhibit the services and resources they provide.
The annual disABILITY Awareness Day featured about two dozen booths that provided information on supportive living, insurance coverage and housing assistance.
"When I started with the city, they really didn't have a way for our disabled community to connect, and I saw that there were so many great organizations that had these services that a lot of people didn't know about," said Katie Weeks, grant coordinator for the City of Hattiesburg. "So we created this day for them, so they can come and connect with the people and the resources that they need."
The event was made possible through sponsorship and partnerships with Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources and Hanger Clinic.
