HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Hattiesburg Police Department is investigating a house fire that happened just before midnight Thursday. When the Hattiesburg Fire Department arrived, a home on East 5th Street was engulfed in flames.

“When firefighters arrived on scene, they attempted to make entry through the back door of the residence and discovered a deceased male,” said Ryan Moore, Hattiesburg Police Department public information officer.

While emergency crews were headed to the fire, they spotted a group of women walking in the same area. The ladies were questioned in relation to the incident. However, there are no signs of immediate foul play, according to police.

The body was sent to the Mississippi State Crime Lab for an autopsy in order to determine the man’s identity and cause of death.
