Laurel police arrest man for apartment shooting

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel police arrested a man for a shooting at a Laurel apartment complex early Monday morning. 

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at the West Hills Apartments on West 10th Street around 12:30 a.m. Two children were evacuated from the apartment, and police determined an adult had barricaded himself inside a bedroom, according to a Laurel Police Department press release.

A special response team was called to the scene and cleared the remainder of the apartment. Two suspects were taken into custody and police seized several guns.

Zachary Thomas Howard, 27, faces one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and the other suspect was released without charges, according to police. Thomas' bond was set at $75,000.
