HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A local group plans to head to the coast for the March for Our Lives in Gulfport.
Organizer Taylor Vines said attending the event is important to help raise awareness for gun safety.
"So often our culture sees anything related to gun reform as an either or," Vines said. "You're either for guns or against guns, and I think this gives us an opportunity to talk about reasonable gun control or legislation that can close some of the loop holes that are really common sense that we should really find a lot of common ground on."
Vines said about 20 people from the area will be carpooling to Gulfport early Saturday morning.
Over 800 locations worldwide will be participating in the event to end gun violence and mass shootings within schools.
