ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Heavy truck traffic on Highway 29 through parts of downtown Ellisville will soon be a thing of the past.
After a Mississippi Department of Transportation repaving project wraps up in a couple of weeks, the city plans to re-route big trucks, using the Highway 590 Bypass.
MDOT is repaving Highway 29, from 590 to Interstate 59.
"It will protect this new highway, this new blacktop," said Lynn Buckhaults, mayor of Ellisville. "It will cut down on a lot of traffic, between the school traffic, Jones County Junior College and just normal city traffic, it gets pretty hectic."
The repaving of Highway 29 is a $1.4 million project.
