HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The City of Hattiesburg and the University of Southern Mississippi joined together Tuesday to salute the soldiers from Bravo Company with the 106th Brigade Support Battalion as they deploy from Camp Shelby.
The soldiers will train in Texas for several months, and afterwards will deployed to the Middle East.
Dozens of people gathered along the roadside to show their support for the troops.
Mayor Toby Barker says Hattiesburg is a military community, and it is important that the city shows a lot of support.
"Because Hattiesburg is a military community, lots of these folks become our friends and family," Barker said. "So, let's make sure that we show them that we support them in the Hattiesburg way."
The event started at 9 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 49 and Hardy Street. The convoy was transported by two buses.
