Carey falls in opening round of NAIA national basketball tourney

KANSAS CITY, Mo - William Carey University's stay at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 2018 Men's Basketball Tournament did not last long.

Playing in the national tournament's opening game, the third-seeded Crusaders (25-6) dropped a 68-67 decision to sixth-seeded Life University (21-11) Wednesday morning at Municipal Auditorium.

Carey, which saw a nine-game winning streak snapped, trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half before going into halftime down by six. The Crusaders led by five with 2:31 to play, but could not hold off Life in the end.

Jamarri Johnson came off the bench to lead the Crusaders with 21 points. Jaylen Moore added 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Troy Salvant had 12 points.

Undra Mitchem put up game highs of 23 points and nine rebounds for Life, Michael Miller added 12 points and five assists and Jay Johnson had 10 points and seven rebounds.
