HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
It took extra innings, but Lady Eagle softball found a way to win its first Conference USA contest of the season on Sunday night.
Junior catcher Samantha Papp hit a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Southern Miss over Western Kentucky 2-0 on Sunday. The Oak Grove graduate leads the Eagles with 17 runs-batted-in and three home runs this season.
In what was a pitcher’s duel for most of the evening, USM senior Samantha Robles recorded eight strikeouts in 7.2 scoreless innings.
The Lady Eagles fell to Auburn twice on Monday – by the scores of 9-2 and 5-0 – to bring their record to 10-16 (1-2 C-USA). USM hosts Troy in a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m.
