Columbia man arrested after drug search

COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

A Columbia man is now behind bars after admitting to having drugs in his possession.

Johnuah Marquis Myers, 22, was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Columbia police were patrolling a neighborhood due to a recent burglary, and discovered Myers walking down the road carrying a backpack.

When police approached him, he immediately dropped the back pack and walked away from it.

When officers searched the backpack, they discovered three glass mason jars filled with marijuana.

A search warrants was obtained for Myers residence where officers also discovered search scales and plastic baggies believed to be used for the packaging of the marijuana for sale. Several grams of crack cocaine was also found during the search along with $1912 in cash. 

Additional charges were placed on Myers and he is incarcerated in the Marion County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Columbia police say the investigation is still ongoing, and additional suspects may be arrested.
