LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

A new book about World War Two, written by late Ellisville businessman Basil Red, is giving a new generation a greater appreciation of veterans.

"Crew No. 8434: Almost Too Late" is an account of Red's service as an Air Corps bomber crewman in Europe.

It was published in July of 2017 by KD Public Relations.

Thursday, students at Laurel High School learned about the book in a presentation by publisher Katherine Parker.

"It's great to see personal accounts of that history that goes on, especially when it's so personal and in touch with our community," said John Thomas, a junior at Laurel High School who attended the presentation.

"I never really thought about how (World War Two) affected our own community, but the facts she gave us today, it was good to hear," said LHS senior Jessica Thompson.

Red's book is based on his personal manuscripts compiled by his friend Mack Haynes.
