Around 10: 00 a.m., Oak Grove Upper Elementary and Oak Grove Lower Elementary School were placed on lockdown. According to school officials, a student reported seeing a man with a gun.
Students and staff evacuated both buildings as authorities searched the campuses. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and surrounding agencies responded to the incident.
According to Lamar County School District superintendent, Tess Smith, “the sighting proved to be a false statement made by the student.”
Now, that the lockdown is over, school is back in session. Smith says authorities will remain on the scene throughout the day for extra precaution.
