JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Volunteer fire and rescue units from Glade and Powers responded to multiple car crashes Tuesday morning.
According to Power Fire and Rescue Capt. Lance Chancellor, just after 5 a.m. officials responded to a crash on Lower Myrick Road near the intersection of Reid Road. Officials say the driver reportedly hydroplaned during heavy rain swerving off the roadway with the front end of the vehicle in a ditch with rising water. The driver did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
Shortly after, officials responded to a second crash that occurred in the same area on Lower Myrick Road involving a Dodge pickup truck. The truck also hydroplaned and crashed into a concrete culvert. The driver sustained what were believed to be minor injuries and was transported to the South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
While rescue teams were assisting in this crash, a third crash was reported involving a GMC Sierra pickup truck on Orange Drive near the intersection of Township Road. The driver and the passenger said their vehicle hydroplaned as well causing them to lose control.
According to officials, pickup truck left the roadway, struck a tree and then ended up on its side. Both driver and passenger were able to remove themselves from the vehicle.
The Jones County Sheriff's Department, Jones County Fire Council, Jones County District, and EMServ Ambulance Service all assisted in these crashes.
