University of Southern Mississippi forward Jayla King, who led the Lady Eagles in scoring and rebounding during the 2017-18 women's basketball season, was named Monday second-team All-Conference USA.
King averaged 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds this season for the Lady Eagles, ranking as C-USA’s seventh-leading scorer and 10th-leading rebounder. The Pensacola, Fla., native was just one of eight C-USA women basketball players to score at least 30 points in a game this season when she went for a career-high 30 points against Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 17.
Sunday, King became the 27th Lady Eagle to reach 1,000 points in her career.
Eighth-seeded USM (15-14) will open the 2018 Conference USA Women’s Basketball Tournament in the 11 a.m. contest Wednesday, taking on ninth-seeded University of Texas-El Paso (16-13) at the Ford Center.
Wednesday’s winner will open quarterfinals play at 11 a.m. Thursday against top-seeded University of Alabama-Birmingham (24-5).
