HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Over 100 people attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at Hattiesburg’s newest furniture store.

Miskelly Furniture opened its newest location at the  Westover Crossing Shopping Center, formerly Gander Mountain.

“There’s no doubt that the store is going to have a huge economic impact in the form of retail sales in Hattiesburg,” said Todd Jackson, Executive Vice President of Area Development Partnership.

The location is the company's second largest location and the seventh store the chain has opened.

“The City of Hattiesburg or greater Hattiesburg has the second largest retail sales annual revenue in the state of Mississippi, with over $3.1 billion in annual retail sales," Jackson said. “Retail is a large income generator for the City of Hattiesburg . “

Miskelly Furniture opened its first store in Pearl 39 years ago.

“Miskelly Furniture obviously chose this intersection at I-59 and Hardy Street because of the 64,000 cars a day that traverse this intersection," Jackson said. "It’s a phenomenal location where there will be a lot of traffic that comes to stop in the store. “

The furniture chain will become the largest furniture and bedding retailer in Mississippi after the opening of its Hattiesburg store.

“It will be a great opportunity for the citizens here in Hattiesburg to have a store of this magnitude."
