HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Eight games into the season, Southern Miss baseball coach Scott Berry still has questions about his ball club.

Berry learns something new about the Golden Eagles (6-2) each week. He expects to find more answers during this weekend's Cox Diamond Invitational in Pensacola, Florida.

"You're always learning I think and you're always learning because there's nothing that's always just constant," Berry said. "There's always people – maybe there's injuries – give other people opportunity. Maybe somebody's struggling – gives people opportunity. I think what you're trying to do, you're trying to really get a feel for everybody. For the season and for the stretch run, as we get into it, get deeper and certainly toward the end."

USM kicks off the weekend against Eastern Michigan on Friday at 6 p.m. Junior left-hander Stevie Powers will start on Friday while junior Nick Sandlin will start against Ohio State on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Eagles round out the weekend against Nicholls State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
