HPD warns of phone scam soliciting donations

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Police Department would like to warn the citizens about a phone scam that has recently occurred.

HPD Public Information Officer Ryan Moore said that at least one person has received a call requesting $100.

"We've gotten numerous reports from people saying they've been contacted by someone claiming to be with the Hattiesburg Police Department asking for funds for the Deen and Tate memorial," Moore said. "We do want everybody in the general public to know that we are not soliciting funds from anybody for that and if they do you have any questions they can contact the Hattiesburg Police Department for more details."

If you receive a call regarding this, please do not give them any personal information.

"It is a scam and do not give them any personal information or not give them any access to money of yours in your account," Moore said.

For those wishing to actually donate funds to the memorial being built in honor of the fallen officers, you can contact the Hattiesburg Police Department.
