COVINGTON COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The eastbound lane of a Covington County highway was blocked for a about four hours Saturday morning after a box truck collided with an 18-wheeler, scattering dozens of parcel packages all over the roadway.

It happened shortly after six a.m., on Highway 84, east of Highway 588.

Collins Fire chief John Pope said the 18-wheeler was broken down on the highway when it was hit by the box truck, ripping the body off the truck.

He said it was carrying dozens of parcels for Amazon.

No hazardous materials were being transported.

Both drivers received minor injuries.

Pope said traffic was diverted around the accident scene, until the trucks could be moved and the packages retrieved.

The roadway was reopened around 11 a.m.
