Suspect in chase escapes capture in Lamar Co.

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

A suspect was able to elude Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers after leading them on a chase through Lamar County on Thursday evening.

MHP spokesman Chase Elkins said the pursuit started when a trooper attempted to stop a white Nissan Maxima on Hwy. 98 near Oloh around 5:45 p.m. for improper equipment and littering.

Elkins said the driver sped away and led troopers on a seven-mile chase down county roads before bailing out of the car and taking off on foot.

According to Elkins, the driver, who was described as a black man in his mid-twenties wearing a red pullover sweatshirt, was not captured. Two other people remained in the vehicle and were later released with no charges.

Elkins confirmed a small amount of marijuana was found in the car.

If you have any information that could help investigators with this case, please call Hattiesburg Metro Crime Stoppers at 601-582-7867.
