City and county officials urge residents to stay off roads

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Forrest County and City of Hattiesburg officials are urging residents to stay off the roads due to dangerous driving conditions.

Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker urged residents to enjoy the weather from home and not get on the road. Barker said emergency officials have already responded to numerous calls regarding wrecks and asks that people try to stay off the roads.

Barker also asked business owners to consider closing before it get dark so that employees can get home safe.

Forrest County Emergency Management Director Glen Moore said for people to not get on the roads tonight due to the potential for ice on the roads.

David Hogan, Forrest County Board of Supervisors President, said that the Forrest County community shelter, 361 Building near the Forrest County multi-purpose center at 946 Sullivan Drive in Hattiesburg, will be open until further notice.
