Camp Shelby to close some roads for training

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center will conduct training at its air-to-ground range through the end of of December, resulting in several gate closures and temporary barricades. 

These areas will be off limits to the public and civilians are not allowed to cross closed gates or temporary barricades. Training exercises will include driving operations at night without headlights, and the public is advised to proceed with caution throughout Camp Shelby's training areas and be aware of these maneuvers as well a traffic control points. 

The bridge on the South Tank Trail near training range 18 is scheduled to be under construction until around Dec. 31, and the public should be prepared to take detoured routes this time period.

    The Mississippi Department of Corrections has locked down all prisons in its system for the weekend.  MDOC announced the weekend lockdown on Twitter on Friday, saying that there would be no visitation, commissary or outside recreation this weekend.     With inclement weather expected Sunday, the University of Southern Mississippi will wrap up its Conference USA baseball series with Middle Tennessee State University with a Saturday doubleheader at Pete Taylor Park. The first game will start at 1:30 p.m., 30 minutes earlier than the originally-scheduled 2 p.m. start. The second game will begin about 45 minutes at the conclusion of the opener.
