Beyond the Sidelines: Hattiesburg High's South State win

HATTIESBURG, MS -

Hattiesburg High school defeated Laurel 33-22 on Friday night in the class 5A South State championship.

The Tigers are 14-0 and headed to the state title for the first time since 1998.

    As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.

    The Perry County Sheriff's Office and the DEA arrested to men on drug charges Wednesday.  Clarence Steele and Chalmers Sumrall were arrested.  Steele was charged with sale of a controlled substance on a federal level and was later denied bond, according to a PCSO Facebook post.
