Internationally acclaimed organist to rededicate Poplarville organ

POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) - An internationally acclaimed organist and author will perform at a Poplarville church.

Rev. Dr. Eric Pridmore, pastor of Poplarville First United Methodist Church, announced that Dr. Eileen Morris Guenther will be in recital at the church on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m., where she will rededicate the church's 1975 Rueter pipe organ.

Guenther is a lecturer in Organ at The George Washington University and also serves as Professor of Church Music at Wesley Theological Seminary.

Her book, "Rivals or a Team: Clergy-Musician Relationships in the 21st Century," was widely acclaimed. She also published "In Their Own Words: Slave Life and Power of Spirituals" was published in June 2016.

Guenther served six years as National President of the American Guild of Organists, the third woman to lead this organization since its founding in 1896.

Following the recital, a reception will be held in the church fellowship hall, at which time Dr. Guenther will sign copies of her newest book.
